Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1967 Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). Then she joined NBC News Washington two years later as an general reporter. In 1981, she began covering at the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to Chief Correspondent to Congress. Mitchell was named chief White House correspondent by NBC News in the year 1992. Mitchell has appeared as an anchor and a panelist on the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell participated on a panel during the 1988 debates among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors in journalism, among them her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award presented by the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell covered the White House first for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 between the terms of Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable stories over the years, such as fiscal reform, the budget, and The Iran Contra affair. She traveled extensively with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
